Dragon Orchard » Further Information

Dragon Orchard is a small traditional fruit farm that has been tended by the same family for over 70 years. The 22 acre orchard has a mix of dessert and cider trees. The 15 acre cider orchard is grown under contract for Bulmers in Hereford.

Norman and Ann Stanier returned to the farm in 1993 to take up the running of the orchard. Whilst the growing practices have stayed the same, the markets for the dessert fruit have changed hugely in recent years with local wholesalers taking fewer and fewer apples and pears. As a result they decided on a change of direction and in October 2001 launched Dragon Orchard Cropsharers to make direct contact with consumers.

For an annual subscription, Dragon Orchard Cropsharers are invited to visit the orchard for a weekend during each season to see how the orchard develops and grows. In the autumn they take home a share of the orchard produce which will keep through the winter. This is a form of community supported agriculture by which farmers and consumers share the rewards and responsibilities of farming. Dragon Orchard is a CSA Open Farm - so please call in and find out more.
